Leadership Training Devotional Guide - Discipleship

DISCIPLESHIP
During this section of our study we will be studying the requirements, results and methods of discipleship. Our key verse will be Luke 6:40. A disciple is a person who is committed to following Christ by learning of Him in such a way as to become like Him. Discipling someone is REPRODUCING what you know and are in Christ in some one else. We will be doing a study on Luke 5-18:34. In this portion of scripture Luke gives us a picture of Jesus working with His disciples. You will have two alternatives in studying this portion of scripture. You can read the section slowly, picking out what is said about the requirements, results and methods of discipleship, or you can read the section quickly looking only for one of the above aspects each week. We recommend reading this same portion of scripture quickly each week, examining a different facet of discipleship each time. In your notebook write down what you learn each day.

WEEK 1: Read Luke 5-18:34. Make a list of the requirements for being a disciple.

WEEK 2: Read Luke 5-18:34. Make a list of the methods Jesus used in developing His disciples.

WEEK 3: Read Luke 5-18:34. Make a list of the results of being a disciple.

WEEK 4: Day 1 and 2: Take this day and tomorrow to think of who has discipled you.

Look through the methods which Jesus used and think of which were particularly effective with you. Which were not included which would have been effective. Be sure to pray for the ministries of those who have worked with you that they might be effective with others as well. Day 3, 4, and 5. Think of the particular discipleship tool you use (Spiritual Life Study, Roots, Navigators). Take the material and look it over in light of the methods and material Jesus used. If you are not presently using any tools, if you have been throughout the SLS, get a manual and read through it during your devotional times. if you have not had an SLS, go through a roots package and try to get someone to work with you through an SLS. Day 6 and 7. Study Matthew 28:18-20, and Hebrews 5:12-14. Disciples are to reproduce themselves. Who are you reproducing with? If you are not working with anyone now, take this time to really begin to pray for God to give you someone and review your tools for discipleship as well as look over the previous 3 weeks of study. If you are working with someone, critically evaluate yourself in light of Jesus' discipleship.
